As seen in these pictures, Orthoceras fossils are often found in a black limestone matrix, with the soft tissues of the ancient squid-like creature replaced with calcite.

The one pictured is exactly the specimen you will receive. It is about 9” tall x 3"wide x 2" deep and weighs almost 3.33 lbs.
