How to Shop the Denver Gem & Mineral Shows Like a Pro: A September 2026 Strategy Guide

Every September, Denver quietly becomes the mineral capital of the world. For about two weeks, thousands of dealers and tens of thousands of rockhounds, collectors, and decor lovers descend on venues all over the metro area for the Denver Gem & Mineral Showcase — and if you’ve never been, it can honestly feel overwhelming. There isn’t just one show. There are close to a dozen, spread across different buildings, with different focuses, different hours, and different vibes.

We’ve spent years on both sides of the table here — shopping as collectors and exhibiting as a small business — and the single biggest thing that separates a great day at the shows from an exhausting one is this: have a plan before you go. Know what you’re actually hoping to find, and pick the show (or shows) that match that goal.

Here’s how we’d map it out for September 2026.

Before you look at a single map or schedule, ask yourself what kind of day you want:

• A fun, family-friendly outing with dinosaur skeletons, sparkly cases, and something for the kids

• Finished home decor and gift pieces — candles, bookends, jewelry, cabinet knobs, one-of-a-kind statement pieces

• Rare or museum-quality specimens for a serious personal collection

• Bulk rough material or wholesale pricing because you’re a maker, reseller, or lapidary hobbyist stocking up

• Identification and education — bringing in your own finds to have an expert take a look

Each of these points you toward a different venue. Trying to do all of it in one visit to one show is how people end up overwhelmed by hour two.

This is the one — the flagship, family-friendly show, and where you’ll find Roccia Roba at Booth B15. Over 100,000 square feet of exhibits, a headline dinosaur exhibition (a 65-foot Diplodocus joins Tyrannosaurus, Utahraptor, and Spinosaurus displays this year), and the popular Miners Co-Op section where prospectors sell material they’ve personally collected. It’s the best pick if you’re after finished decor and unique gift pieces alongside a genuinely fun day out — this is where we’ll have our full lineup of rock oil candles, desktop water fountains, and other gemstone home decor, so come say hi.

Run by seven Denver-area mineral and fossil clubs, this is the show for serious collectors. Expect display-quality and museum-grade specimens, knowledgeable club members on hand, and identification services if you want to bring in something from your own collection. If your goal is building out a personal mineral collection rather than shopping for gifts, plan your day around this one.

A smaller, hotel-based show — easier to navigate in an afternoon if the idea of eight miles of tables sounds like too much. Good middle ground if you want a curated selection of fossils and minerals without the crowds of the bigger venues.

Right next door to the Coliseum and connected by a food-truck-lined tunnel, this cluster of shows leans toward large-volume wholesale and bulk rough material — it’s where lapidary hobbyists and makers go to stock up. Retail shoppers are welcome, but bring a tax ID or business license if you’re buying wholesale quantities.

If you only have one day: start at the Denver Coliseum for the best mix of family entertainment and finished decor shopping — and swing by Booth B15 to see what we’ve got this year — then walk next door to the National Western Complex if you want to dig through bulk material afterward.

If you’re a serious collector with more time: give the Westin Westminster show a dedicated half-day of its own, then use a second day for the Coliseum and Northglenn shows.

If you’re short on time or new to all this: the Colorado Mineral & Fossil Fall Show in Northglenn is the easiest to do in an hour or two without feeling rushed.
