Orthoceras Tower Specimen from Morocco, Self-Standing
As seen in these pictures, Orthoceras fossils are often found in a black limestone matrix, with the soft tissues of the ancient animal actually replaced with white calcite.
NOTE: this piece has slight damage where the tip of one of the points has broken off (by my thumb in the photo). It is still a gorgeous piece and the price is reflective of this slight imperfection.
When these are polished, as these have been by artisans in Morocco, they can look quite striking.
A great addition to anyone's home with or without a rock collection.
These pieces stand about 9-10” tall each and weigh 2-3 lbs.
