This rock oil lamp made from Septarian Nodule, often called "dragon's egg". This particular specimen comes from Utah.
This rock oil candle is crafted with a reservoir permanently attached to the underside to hold the oil and as you can see in the photos is hardly visible. The outer surface of the rock as been highly polished, allowing the reflection of the flame to "dance" off of its surface.
To help ensure the longevity of your rock oil lamp, we've taken the extra step of treating all surfaces with several coats of sealant to prevent oil from seeping into the rock.
All of our Rock Oil Lamps also include a fiberglass wick that won't burn down, never needing replacing.
This fiberglass wick is held in place with a glass wick holder. Adding a few drops of your favorite scented oil onto this glass holder allows it to become an oil diffuser so you can fill your space with your favorite aromas.
A small funnel to aid in filling included.
This is sure to be a great conversation piece in any room in which it is place - your office, living room dining room kitchen. It can also be used outside on your picnic area with a citronella scented oil (we like the firefly brand); just be sure to bring it in out of the rain!
Its also sure to be a hit with the rock collector or candle lover on your gift giving list.
When filled with a high quality lamp oil, it will produce a nearly smokeless, odorless "candle-sized" flame that will burn for at least three hours. Depending on the oil used, even our smallest reservoirs, measuring only 1 fl. oz., have had a single oil lamp fill-up last for over 7 hours! In this case, we used Firefly "Safe & Green" oil (link on bottom of listing).
Filling the lamp is a simple process:
1) Remove the wick assembly from the rock
2) Insert the funnel we've provided into the hole where the wick came from
3) Fill with a high-quality paraffin wax oil.
4) Reinsert the wick and allow a couple of minutes for the wick to "wick" the oil.
5) Light and enjoy!

Decomposing sea life killed by volcanic eruptions had a chemical attraction for the sediment around them, forming mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were left to dry and crack. Because of their bentonite (or clay) content they also shrank at the same time, trapping the cracks inside. As decomposed calcite from the shells was carried down into the cracks in the mud balls, calcite crystals formed. A thin wall of calcite was transformed into aragonite separating the bentonite heavy clay exteriors from the calcite centers. Because of this, the nodules are called septarians. Septarians are composed of Calcite (The Yellow Centers), Aragonite (The Brown Lines) and the Outer Grey Rock is Limestone. Occasionally the fossil or some of the fossils which started the formation of the rock is noticeable in the rock. *** Metaphysically As a grounding stone, Septarian allows for better tolerance and patience, as well as emotional flexibility. It can gauge the underlying cause of an illness when meditated upon, and focuses the body into healing itself. Septarian can absorb your energy when held over a period of time and transmits that energy into strength when needed.
