One of the finest orthoceras fossil tower specimens I have seen in this size. The large cephalopod across the face of this sculpture really sets it apart from others!
It has been carved and cut so it can be self-standing without the need for a separate stand.
As seen in these pictures, Orthoceras fossils are often found in a black limestone matrix, with the soft tissues of the ancient animal actually replaced with white calcite.
When these are polished, as these have been by artisans in Morocco, they can look quite striking.
A great addition to anyone's home with or without a rock collection.
This piece stands about 8.5” tall and weighs 3.75 lbs.
